Karate itself is the art of defense through hand and foot movements. Earwood’s Karate Studios are different from other forms of martial arts in that they blend aspects of karate, body exercise, speed and agility…. A release of every individual’s potential. As important as the physical motions, are the mental attitudes that emphasize respect for oneself, teacher and fellow students. At Earwood’s we help each individual to activate that potential and let out the “inner winner” Who is Dewey Earwood? Dewey (known as “SEI”, short for Sensei, meaning teacher or elder) is a Certified 10th degree Blackbelt in US TAI. He also holds a Blackbelt in Isshin-Ryu, MooDuKwan and Zen Shoto Kai. Sensei started karate in 1969 due to a weight problem and lack of self confidence. He found that karate is an individual sport anyone can enjoy regardless of his or her size. There is no “class competitiveness” you must contend with. You only go there to get in shape with a special group of people, while learning Self-Defense. Sensei gives credit to Jesus Christ for his success. Without Him, the loving support of Marie and Jentry Earwood and the wonderful staff at EKS. “SEI” would not be the success he is today. Having a child give you a big hug at the end of a class or saying “I Love You, Sir” means more to Sensei that doing the best sidekick in the world! Is Karate for you? Unlike many sports or exercise programs, Earwood’s Karate Studios are for virtually everyone. Men, women and children ranging from ages 3-103 are capable of learning and reaping the benefits from our instruction.
